Description

Choose a chocolate protein shake that fits a plant-based routine. Brown rice protein and cocoa give this powder its protein base and chocolate character, while chicory root fibre contributes fibre and steviol glycosides provide sweetness. It makes adding protein straightforward when you want a ready-flavoured alternative to an unflavoured powder.

Each 25g serving provides 16.9g protein, 2.7g fibre and 88 kcal, with 0.15g sugars. Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass and to the maintenance of normal bones. The combination offers a rice-based alternative for a plant protein routine.

Chicory root fibre contributes dietary fibre and body to the shake. It makes this more than a protein-only powder: the stated fibre total is an addition to the fibre you obtain from everyday meals. Cocoa gives the powder its chocolate character, and xanthan gum helps keep the mixed drink consistent. Green tea and guarana contribute plant extracts; both can contain caffeine, so this formula should not be treated as caffeine-free. Steviol glycosides provide sweetness.

Mix two level scoops into water, juice or a plant drink. The 500g tub provides 20 servings. Suitable for vegans, with no dairy ingredients. The amount of caffeine supplied by the green tea and guarana extracts has not been specified.

FAQs

If it isn't answered below, ask us — a real person replies.

How much protein and fibre does it provide?
A 25g serving provides 16.9g protein and 2.7g fibre, with 88 kcal and 0.15g sugars. Added liquid changes the finished drink’s nutrition.
What gives it the chocolate flavour?
The formula contains cocoa powder and flavouring. It is sweetened with steviol glycosides.
How do I prepare a serving?
Mix two level scoops (25g) into approximately half a large glass of water, fruit juice, rice drink or almond drink.
Does it contain caffeine?
It contains green tea and guarana extracts. The amount of caffeine per serving has not been specified.
Is it vegan and dairy-free?
Yes. The recipe is vegan and contains no dairy ingredients. The manufacturing facility also handles milk and other allergens.
What are the other ingredients?
Chicory root fibre, xanthan gum, steviol glycosides, green tea extract and guarana extract, alongside the brown rice protein, cocoa and flavouring.
How many servings are in the tub?
Twenty 25g servings in the 500g tub.
Why include chicory fibre?
Chicory root fibre contributes dietary fibre and body to the shake. It makes this more than a protein-only powder: the stated fibre total is an addition to the fibre you obtain from everyday meals. A 25g portion provides 2.7g total fibre. That total includes the fibre in the whole formula; it is not a stated dose of isolated chicory inulin.

Brown rice protein

A concentrated grain protein with an amino-acid profile that differs from pea protein.

SourceBrown rice protein
FormPowder
Found inWholegrain rice

What it is

Brown rice protein concentrates the protein fraction of rice. It has a different nutritional composition from a bowl of cooked rice or from rice flour, which contains a larger proportion of carbohydrate.

Understanding amino acids

Rice protein generally contains less lysine than legume proteins. Pea and rice therefore offer complementary amino-acid profiles. This is one reason varied grain and legume foods are useful components of a plant-based diet.

Its nutritional role

Protein contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass and the maintenance of normal bones. The protein amount in a serving is more useful for comparison than the size of the scoop.

In VECHÉN

Brown Rice Protein provides 16.9g protein per 25g serving and contains cocoa for chocolate flavour. It also lists guarana and green tea extracts. Those are separate botanical ingredients, rather than natural components of rice protein. Their presence should not be used to guess a caffeine quantity when a measured amount has not been declared.

Chicory root fibre

Root-derived fibre that also contributes to the texture of selected powders.

SourceChicory root fibre extract
FormFibre ingredient
Found inChicory, Jerusalem artichoke, onion, garlic, leek

What it is

Chicory roots contain fructans, a family of carbohydrates that includes inulin. These differ from starch: human digestive enzymes do not break them down in the same way, and they can be fermented by bacteria in the large intestine.

Its place in a formula

Chicory root fibre can add bulk and influence mouthfeel. It is a fibre ingredient, rather than a protein or a vitamin. The total fibre declaration may include contributions from several ingredients.

A useful detail

A blend’s total fibre content does not tell you its exact inulin dose. Likewise, the presence of chicory root fibre alone does not establish a particular digestive benefit. The specific ingredient and amount matter.

In VECHÉN

Chicory root fibre appears in Pea Protein, Brown Rice Protein, Soy Protein + Multivitamins and Bovine Collagen + Glucosamine. People sensitive to fermentable fibres may experience bloating, so tolerance is an individual consideration.

Cocoa

Cocoa powder contributes chocolate flavour and colour to selected protein formulas.

SourceCocoa powder
FormPowder
Found inCocoa, dark chocolate, cacao nibs

What it is

Cocoa powder is made from processed cacao beans, typically after some of their cocoa butter has been removed. It differs from a finished chocolate bar, which contains its own combination of cocoa ingredients, sugar and other components.

Its role in the formula

Cocoa brings chocolate flavour, colour and some bitterness. A chocolate-flavoured protein powder may therefore combine cocoa with flavourings or sweeteners to balance the taste.

A useful detail

Cocoa powders vary with the beans and processing. The presence of cocoa alone does not establish a standardised flavanol content, a particular caffeine amount or a health benefit in the finished serving.

In VECHÉN

Cocoa appears in Whey Protein Chocolate, Brown Rice Protein Chocolate and Soy Protein + Multivitamins Chocolate. The protein, sugars and other nutrient values belong to the complete recipe. A chocolate flavour should be compared with its own nutrition table rather than assuming it has the same composition as the Vanilla version.

Guarana and green tea

Two botanical ingredients to distinguish from the protein powder that contains them.

SourceGuarana extract; green tea extract
FormExtracts
Found inCoffee, tea, cocoa, guarana drinks
DoseCaffeine quantity has not been established from the supplied product information.

Guarana

Guarana is a plant whose seeds naturally contain caffeine. A guarana extract is a prepared botanical ingredient; its name alone does not state its caffeine concentration.

Green tea

Green tea comes from Camellia sinensis leaves and naturally contains caffeine and plant compounds including catechins. Extracts differ from a brewed cup of tea in composition and concentration.

Understanding the amount

An extract’s weight is not the same as its caffeine or catechin quantity. A product cannot be assigned an exact caffeine dose from an ingredient list unless the extract specification and amount support that calculation.

In VECHÉN

Brown Rice Protein lists guarana and green tea extracts. Pea Protein, Hemp Protein + Greens and Greens Blend also list green tea. These ingredients should be considered when choosing a routine, particularly by people sensitive to caffeine.

FormVaries by formula
OriginElectrolytes + Carbs · BCAA 2:1:1
Found inSTRUCTURA and Creatine Monohydrate — no sweetener, no flavouring, no colour

Three distinct types

Steviol glycosides are sweet compounds obtained from stevia leaves. Sucralose is a high-intensity sweetener used in small quantities. Xylitol is a polyol, also called a sugar alcohol; the term does not mean it contains drinking alcohol.

Why formulas differ

High-intensity sweeteners provide sweetness in small amounts, while a polyol can also contribute bulk. Their flavours and behaviour differ, so they are not necessarily interchangeable within a recipe.

Reading the label

The presence of a sweetener does not establish that the complete product is sugar-free or calorie-free. Other ingredients can contribute carbohydrate, sugars or energy. Polyols can cause digestive discomfort or a laxative effect when consumed in excess.

In VECHÉN

Selected protein and collagen powders use steviol glycosides. Liposomal Vitamin D3 + K2 lists xylitol. BCAA 2:1:1 and Electrolytes + Carbs list sucralose. Compare the finished formula and flavour rather than assuming every product uses the same sweetener.

FormVaries by formula
OriginSee the individual product ingredient list for the exact form and source.
AllergenWhey formulas contain milk and include soy lecithin. Always refer to the individual product allergen declaration.

Different roles

Colours help create a consistent appearance. Stabilisers and thickeners influence texture and how ingredients remain dispersed. Carriers help distribute small quantities of an ingredient through a larger blend. These are different formulation jobs.

Examples in practice

Xanthan gum is used to thicken or stabilise a drink. Citric acid adjusts acidity and contributes tartness. Maltodextrin can provide bulk or act as a carrier. Colour ingredients may include beta-carotene, turmeric extract or grape skin extract where listed.

A useful distinction

An ingredient used for colour is not automatically present at a nutritional supplement dose. Turmeric extract used as a colour, for example, should not be assumed to supply a standardised curcumin amount.

In VECHÉN

The exact combination varies by product and flavour. Read these ingredients alongside the main nutrients: they explain how a powder or liquid is made to taste, mix and remain consistent. Their individual quantities should not be guessed where the label does not declare them.

Baked chocolate oats

View recipe

Makes 1 large breakfast portion or 2 smaller portions. The whole dish contains 25g powder; half contains 12.5g.

Ingredients
• 25g VECHÉN Brown Rice Protein Powder (2 level scoops for the whole dish)
• 50g rolled oats
• 1 egg
• 1 ripe banana, mashed
• 100ml milk
• 1 tsp baking powder
• A little oil to grease the dish

Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C conventional / 160°C fan. Lightly grease a small ovenproof dish.
2. Mix the oats, VECHÉN Brown Rice Protein Powder and baking powder in a bowl. In another bowl, whisk the egg, mashed banana and milk.
3. Stir the wet mixture into the dry ingredients until no dry pockets remain, then pour into the dish.
4. Bake for approximately 20–25 minutes, until the centre is set and the egg mixture is cooked through. Check early to avoid drying it out.

Add the rice protein before baking, with the dry ingredients. Rice protein can be used in baking; do not replace all the oats with extra powder. These are not interchangeable directions for vitamin-fortified blends. Contains egg, milk and oats; the powder contains guarana and green tea extracts. Follow the directions and daily serving limit on your product pack; the powder in this recipe counts towards that amount.

Chocolate overnight oats

View recipe

Makes 1 breakfast portion.

Ingredients
• 25g VECHÉN Brown Rice Protein Powder (2 level scoops)
• 50g rolled oats
• 200ml oat drink
• 1 tbsp chia seeds
• 50g raspberries

Method
1. Whisk VECHÉN Brown Rice Protein Powder into the oat drink before adding the oats and chia.
2. Stir well, cover and refrigerate overnight.
3. Stir again in the morning, loosen with a splash of oat drink if needed, and add the raspberries.

The powder goes in before chilling; the cocoa flavour is already in the product. No baking is needed. This blend contains guarana and green tea extracts; follow its pack guidance and check allergens. Follow the directions and daily serving limit on your product pack; the powder in this recipe counts towards that amount.

Date and cocoa balls

View recipe

Makes 12 balls. The whole batch contains 25g powder; 3 equal balls contain approximately 6.25g (1/4 of a product serving).

Ingredients
• 25g VECHÉN Brown Rice Protein Powder (2 level scoops for the whole batch)
• 150g soft pitted dates
• 60g rolled oats
• 2 tbsp tahini
• Cold water, only if needed

Method
1. If the dates are firm, soak briefly in warm water, then drain well.
2. Put the dates, oats, VECHÉN Brown Rice Protein Powder and tahini in a food processor. Pulse until the mixture clumps.
3. Add water 1 tsp at a time only if it will not hold together. Divide into 12 equal balls and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Add the protein during processing, not as a coating. These are no-bake bites; the chocolate flavour comes from the powder. Contains sesame and oats. The protein blend contains guarana and green tea extracts; these are adult portions. Follow the directions and daily serving limit on your product pack; the powder in this recipe counts towards that amount.
